Description

The author presents a revised and updated edition with many practical recommendations.  It provides a complete framework for planning and implementing cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT).  Specific populations, including children, older adults, those with substance use problems, combat veterans, and other diverse trauma populations are discussed.  Changes in the diagnosis of PTSD arising from the publication of DSM-5, and both DSM-IV and DSM-5 are presented, with highlights of their similarities and differences.  Updated research findings which have emerged over the last decade are reviewed with emphasis on the findings that are relevant to the cognitive-behavioral treatment of PTSD.  New developments in treatment are covered.  A chapter new to the second edition deals with pharmacotherapy for PTSD and its relevance for the cognitive-behavioral practitioner.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to discuss/explain:

  • Clinical Features of PTSD
  • Cognitive and Behavioral Features of PTSD
  • Cognitive Behavioral Theories
  • Treatments:  A Review of the Research
  • Combining Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy with Pharmacotherapy
